This WordPress error seem to appear after you transfer your entire WordPress site to another hosting or server. When uploading an image, you will most likely get this error message:
“Unable to create directory /home/blah/wp-content/uploads/2009/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

If you’re a WordPress user, you would know that WordPress is clearly the leader in all of blogging platforms there is combined in terms of usability, design and efficiency. According to WordPress, the latest version, WordPress 2.8 has been downloaded 10,206,370 times and counting. However, you would have realized as well that WordPress is the most vulnerable platform out there prone to hacks, attacks and spams. We can’t have everything in one basket after all.

Every few months, WordPress users get a message on their dashboard reminding that it’s time for that upgrade again. This year alone, we would have upgraded 9 times including the upcoming Version 2.9 in December. From:

After Firefox 3.0.10 repeatedly crashed on us every time we uploaded a photo in WordPress 2.7.1, we had to find out why this was happening and find the fix for it. After scouring the net keying “wordpress crashes firefox” as keywords, we found the culprit. It is the Google Gears add-on that is causing the crash when you upload a picture.
The fix is simple. Disable Google Gears in your add-ons. You can find it under tools, just click add-ons and look for Google Gears, then click disable. Firefox would require you to restart your browser so be sure you have no unsaved projects in your open windows. Hit restart, try uploading a photo in your WP-admin post, voila! Look we even have uploaded photos on this post which we couldn’t do minutes ago as proof!
